Liz Abadiotakis, OTD, OTRL, & Maya Buono, MS, OTR

Course Description

Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is the umbrella term covering Response to Intervention (RTI) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) within the school setting. MTSS offers a 3 tiered collaborative approach in assisting students to succeed in the general education environment. While most school systems have some type of MTSS in place for educational services, many do not have 3 tiers that specifically include occupational therapy (OT) services and supports available to the general population of students. When a general education teacher is reaching out to the administration for assistance from the Intervention and Referral Services (I&RS) team, it is typically expected that the teacher has already exhausted his or her abilities and resources to meet the needs of the struggling student. OT practitioners have expertise in both habilitative and rehabilitative frameworks as well as skills to facilitate the co-occupation of learning in unique environments. This webinar will give an overview of MTSS and steps to get involved.
