Legislative report for July, 2008

State

Attached (click here) is an update of all bills that we are monitoring for the state.  The excel sheet list all the bills and any bills that had action during the last month are listed first.

Two of particular interest

1) Expanded NJ Family Care bill was passed by House and Senate and passed to the Governor.  It establishes mandate for health care coverage of children, and makes various reforms to individual and small employer insurance markets.

2. The PT bill that concerns access to physical therapy services, and insurance claims handling following access to those services was passed in the house and has been sent to the Senate

Federally

The Senate failed pass H.R. 6331, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act . (It did pass the House)

Therapists are faced with a 10.6% cut in Medicare reimbursement effective July 1 and it puts into effect full implementation of the arbitrary per-beneficiary therapy caps ($1810 for OT and $1810 for PT and SLP combined). In other words, the therapy cap exceptions process also expires on June 30.

Respectfully submitted,

Mariann Moran
